Batis Zeiss 2.8 / 18: very wide angle autofocus for mirrorless Sony

In recent months Zeiss has pressed firmly on the accelerator with the new set of objectives with very interesting features. Among those Manual Focus series Otus aims at the highest quality without compromise and Milvus series has the task to rejuvenate the Classic line goals, while attracted the eyes of all owners of Sony full frame mirrorless the Batis series, characterized the autofocus presence.

Now Zeiss enriches this last series with a really interesting perspective from the plate. ZEISS Batis 2.8 / 18 is a very wide angle of good opening, with the particular OLED display that replaces the scale for depth of field, showing also the focus distance, thus adapting to the camera in an active way on which it is mounted, be it full frame or APS-C. The optical joins the other wide angle, less extreme but more bright ZEISS Batis 2/25 and the average of portrait paintings ZEISS Batis 1.8 / 85. With a diagonal angle of view of 99 ° (90 ° horizontal) Batis the new 18mm f / 2.8 should stimulate the creativity of photographers, promising to maintain a very high image quality over the entire field of view.

Particularly suitable for scenery and architecture, thanks to the opening f / 2.8 aims to play his cards well nell'astrofotografia. It adopts the Distagon optical design and is composed of 11 elements in 10 groups, 7 of which are in special glass and 4 with double aspherical surface. The minimum focusing distance amounts to 25 cm, while the diameter of the thread filters port is equal to 77mm. The lens weighs 330 grams. The list price communicated by Zeiss stood on the value, excluding VAT, of € 1.260.
