The European Commission has formalized the charges against Google and use Android as it was leaked a few days ago. The Commission is investigating about some Android operating mode, especially with regard to Google Search, the widget that provides the search bar on the home, and the Google Chrome app.
According to Brussels, Google would force manufacturers of third-party smartphone and mobility solutions to pre-install these apps within the granting of the license agreement for the use of the Android operating system. In this way it is ensured that the two apps take up most of the equipment, since 80% of devices sold in Europe and in the world uses Android, and that its search engine continues to be by far the most widely used .
It is an economic incentive for producers as well as to the mobile network operators to secure exclusivity of Google Search which obviously are not welcome from Brussels. Who initiated the first formal step in the procedure that may lead to the penalties if the company does not implement the remedies agreed with the EU.
"The practice closes the road to rivals app makers to enter the market," says Brussels. "It hurts consumers by reducing competition and restricting innovation." According to the Commission, therefore, Google's conduct deprives consumers a wide selection of apps and services.
Through ongoing investigations, carried out under the direction of the EU Commissioner for Margrethe Vestager competition, will determine if Google is guilty against charges of anti-competitive behavior.
