The game world will be inspired to Irish mythology and we will have a female protagonist. His name is Merryn, is the daughter of a fisherman lost at sea during a fishing trip. In an effort to find her father she will leave for a perilous journey that will lead her to the depths underwater.

As a product belonging to the genre of puzzle metroidvania will present components and a remarkable exploration of the map, identification of shortcuts and powers to unlock progression. The mission submarine Merryn will enable it to take advantage of a variety of weapons, including the explosion sonar and grappling hook. Moreover, thanks to the diving suit, the protagonist will be able to explore the seabed outside of your submarine and cross small tunnel solving numerous puzzles.

"Everyone in the team has grown with this type of games (in reference to Metroid and Castlevania ed). They were part of our childhood. It is something that we've never done and we want to try, "continued Hastings.

Moreover Song of the Deep will focus mainly on exploration and puzzle, leaving the combat mechanics in the background. There will also be a series of cutscenes that tell the adventures of Merryn like it was narrated from a picture book.

Insomniac has chosen to partner with the chain GameStop for the publication of Song of the Deep, is opting for digital distribution and for the production of a retail copy, which will be exclusively available in all stores of the US retailer.

"It all started with a casual conversation ... about a year ago Mark was talking about his opinion on how GameStop could communicate more directly with the players," said Ted Price, CEO of (Insomniac Games). "We had the opportunity to work on this concept and we were very pleased with what we have achieved with the world Song of the Deep. I described the game in Mark, we showed what we had and all in GameStop were very impressed about the story. So we set up an unconventional relationship between developer and publisher. "

"This is the project on which we are completely focused at present, and this is the first time we do something like this. There are a lot of things to learn along the way and many more that should be done. One of the reasons why we launched this project is to try to look for different ways to expand our business and bring additional quality to our consumers. This is a different way to bring added value to this audience.
