Microsoft stops the production of Xbox 360

Had been put on the market November 22, 2005, so now comes the announcement that it is to be considered as momentous for the video game industry. Xbox 360 was one of the most successful of the latest generations console, especially with regard to the North American market. Total sales of around 80 million Xbox 360 in just over 10 years of commercialization.

The production interruption announcement was made by the same Phil Spencer through this post. The remaining units of the Xbox 360 will remain on store shelves, but once depleted will no longer be replaced with new consoles.

"Xbox 360 has a great meaning for all of us working in Microsoft," Spencer wrote. "And although it has allowed us to live a great experience, continue to produce it after more than ten years after its debut starts to become difficult. This is why we decided to stop producing".

This will have no impact on those who continue to play on Xbox 360: Microsoft, in fact, is committed to keep your console software and to ensure support via Xbox Live. Many users of the Xbox 360 still continue to pay a subscription to Xbox Live Gold and Microsoft obviously does not want to give up this revenue. On the other hand, Xbox One is now able to handle backwards compatibility to the games for the Xbox 360 and Microsoft wants to push its users to use this feature.

On the other hand, Microsoft has now marketing a single system for gaming, Xbox One. The console sells well, but struggled to hold the strong pace of PS4. The decision to stop production of the Xbox 360, moreover, is part of the new brand strategy to expand Xbox on Windows 10.
