Knockin: the sensor that makes smart all home surfaces

The interface, which is the way you interact with things, will be a crucial point in the world of the Internet of Things. It will also be surrounded by objects connected and intelligent, but if we can not communicate with them in a natural way part of their intelligence will be useless. Kickstarter has had a tremendous success Knocki, an object that in just one hour after the launch of the fundraising campaign reached its target of $ 35,000, being now already at over $ 162,000 USD.

Knocki is a small object that promises to make all surfaces of our house of the smart home control console. Once attached to a surface, Knocki fails to recognize when fingers or knuckles are beaten out of it, allowing to assign 10 sequences of functions touches such as turning off the lights, the activation of the thermostat, the ignition of the coffee machine, sending a message to those who are playing on the intercom.

Knocki is compatible with systems such as Nest, Philips Hue, WEMo, Samsung Smartthings and apps like Spotify and Gmail, but of course can also interface with a wide range of other objects when connected to Wi-Fi network, such as clocks, watches, speakers . The crowdfunding campaign offers supporters a Knocki sensor in exchange for a donation of $ 59, with planned shipments for the month of December.

For Virgin Orbit, this year has likely been completely turned on its head. The company was aiming for three launches this year, but everything will remain grounded until the cause of the anomaly has been identified and resolved. It’s unclear how long that will take, but likely at least three months. Add this delay to Virgin’s dwindling cash reserves and you have a foundation that’s suddenly much shakier than before. ...
