Despite a series of downward revisions regarding the growth of its semiconductor market, primarily due to lower than expected estimates regarding tablet, smarthpone and PC, the Taiwanese foundry TSMC has, however, endorsed the objective of revenue growth for 2016 , between 5% and 10%.
The company also revealed to increase production of 16nm chips with further improvements on yield rates. The foundry has also conferato that the 16-nanometer chips will make up more than 20% of total wafer sales in 2016.
TSMC has also already received various tapeout (the complete design of the chip to build) from customers for the process to 10 nanometers in the first quarter of 2016. "We are actively preparing to receive even more tapeout in the coming quarters, which will tow substantial demand from the second quarter of 2017 to 2018 "noted co-CEO Mark Liu.
In terms of 7 nanometers Taiwanese foundry notes that the development is well underway. "We have over 20 clients engaged in intensive projects with us and we expect to have 15 tapeout of customers in 2017," Liu stressed. The foundry expects to move his process technology to 7 nanometers to volume production during the first half of 2018.
