Strix ROG GL502: a new gaming notebook from Asus family in sight?

The Asus ROG GL502 Strix was announced by the Taiwanese in recent weeks, and presented for the first time to the Italian public in conjunction with the design week in Milan. It is a very interesting product, not so much for the technical solutions as it outlines a new approach to the Asus audience of gamers.

Asus uses for the past ten years, the ROG brand, Republic of Gamers, to identify their own solutions for the public of the most gamers users. The ROG range is initially playing with motherboards and then extend to a bit 'all the components produced by Asus; the solutions that fit into this family are typically positioned in the higher-end segment, the premium, if we identify components that are characterized by specific technical solutions.

The market positioning of the ROG product line has made the fortune of this series, but at the same time it also represents the main limit on the future. Asus fact can not reposition down its ROG range, going this way to offer products and components designed for gamers also on closer market segment the price. This trend was, however, as practiced by some companies competitors, which in this way were able to obtain valid commercial results.

How to solve this solution? The recipe seems to indicate just the notebook ROG GL502 Strix pictured here, a model that belongs to the ROG Republic of Gamers family, but this is different in two very clear aesthetic elements. The first is the use of the color orange instead of red classic that has so far characterized the ROG products. The second is the inscription Strix included in the name, already used by Asus in the recent past to identify several series of video cards such as the NVIDIA GPU with AMD characterized by a medium to high-end positioning and particularly silent cooling systems.

The Strix family, as regards the video cards, joins the ROG being positioned slightly lower but without sacrifices in terms of technical characteristics, additional functionality and speed performance. A similar dynamic appears to have been implemented also as regards the notebook for gamers: ROG GL502 Strix it is the first example, with name and design that differ from traditional models Republic of Gamers despite a very full and rich, and provided a price that certainly is not yet at a level that could be called popular.

For a list that starts from € 1,699.00 VAT Strix ROG GL502 offers a 15.6-inch diagonal screen with Full HD or 4K resolution depending on the version, in conjunction with NVIDIA GeForce video card GTX 970M or GeForce GTX 980M and Intel core i7 processor with quad-core architecture. The overall thickness is content 23.5 millimeters, a given very interesting in view of the integrated components; the weight of 2,2Kg makes this notebook a highly portable gaming solution. Local storage sees the combination of a SSD, up to 512 Gbytes of capacity, and a mechanical hard disks from 2 Terabytes of capacity as a maximum.

We will see at Computex Taipei, an event that will open its doors at the end of May in a way that Asus will choose to promote Strix brand in the mobile PC industry for gamers by announcing other models.
