The spread of television sets in standard 4K necessarily passes through the availability of programs to use this as high resolution, in mirror image to what happened in the past with the availability of the first Full HD panels paired with movies on Blu-Ray media.
The physical media does not represent more the way for future development, and this is even more evident in the distribution plans of the 4K standard in the home. Sony has announced that starting next April 4 to start operations of its 4K streaming service, which will also be matched at the High Dynamic Support Range (HDR) which large interest space has gathered at the CES in Las Vegas last January.
The Sony approach chosen for this service, however, not expected to use streaming to a large catalog, the Netflix so to speak, but the chance to buy a digital copy of the full-resolution movies with the various ancillary technical features (HDR in the first place) , for an amount equal to $ 30 per film. This also includes all the extras that are typically supplied together with a movie when sold on physical media.
The service, indicated by the name of Ultra, is currently supplied exclusively to the Sony TVs holders in 4K format. Who will buy in the next few months a Sony TV of this type will receive the possibility to download for free up to 4 titles; customers who had downloaded instead high-resolution films from Sony Picture Store and had taken steps to upgrade their TV with a Sony 4K model will be entitled to a discount for access to the same content via Ultra, benefiting from the 4K resolution.
