Chrome 50 was launched today on Windows, Mac and Linux, adding some new features aimed at developers and end users. As usual, the update will be automatically charged if you keep the default settings of the browser, but can also be forced by the settings manually or downloaded on the official website.
Define a simple Google Chrome browser is not however correct: with over 1 billion active users and its advanced features is a real platform and its developers can not overlook. And that's why very often new releases come with novelty exclusively aimed at developers but that reflected then translate into a better experience of use even for the "consumer", which can exploit the potential added.
Let's start with what has been taken away: as announced last November Chrome no longer supports older software platforms. It will not be updated on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, Mac OS X 10.7 Lion and Mac OS XC 10.8 Mountain Lion.
Among the new features we find a more streamlined management of push notifications: Chrome Apps and Extensions support the ability to send real-time notification of May 2010, with Chrome 5, but the feature has arrived for web pages only on Chrome 42. five later release was taken off the notifications Center because not used, with custom buttons for individual notifications that were introduced in Chrome 48.
The latest version released in recent hours, Chrome 50, introduces the possibility for sites to include the payload of the notification data in the push message. This allows you to send content without needing the final check by the server, allowing you to send the details of the notification simultaneously to the message. The new model, called Push Notification Payload and already supported by Firefox, would avoid the problems that previously had with the sending of notifications, especially to slow connections.
Sites can now know when a notification is closed by the user, with Chrome 50 which offers some statistical tool more that can be useful to managers of various web services. Notifications can also be customized (always from the sites, not by users) with images, icons or sounds. The latest version also supports a feature called declarative preload which are expected to reduce page load time in specific circumstances.
Novelties are also smaller entities present, and the only "bug-hunting" Google has spent about $ 17,500 to third party researchers. Chrome 50 is in the pipeline even on iOS and Android, although the company has not yet announced the exact dates for release.
