A few days away from the start of the upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile for Windows Phone 8.1 smartphone supported process, not the criticism leveled at Microsoft are attenuated by users excluded, especially in light of the Redmond statements confirming that there will be a second wave of upgrades and that, therefore, the devices will remain excluded these. Eloquent about to tweet is published at the end of last week by the official Windows Insider account:
- Windows Insider (@windowsinsider) March 17, 2016
They are effectively excluded all terminals with 512 MB of RAM, as confirmed by the official Windows Insider account, but also other smartphones that despite having 1 or 2 GB of RAM (consider the Lumia 1020) will not receive the update Official Windows 10 Mobile. The motivations were illustrated recently by Microsoft and affect feedback gathered during the Windows Insider program, feedback documenterebbero a large number of instability and issues that have a direct impact on the experience of use - see the intervention of Gabriel Aul on the point.
Still, the behavior of the entire Microsoft update each other on Windows 10 Mobile is not convincing at all users, not just for the exclusion of some models that, technically, we can and must (reluctantly) accept .
The users of the accusation: Microsoft has not kept his promise
E 'in terms of communication with the users that the Redmond home receives the heaviest criticism. On several occasions, more and less explicit, Microsoft confirmed in recent months that the entire installed base Windows Phone 8.1 would receive the official update to Windows 10 Mobile. Eloquent, to cite one of several messages disseminated through social channels, is the tweet by which, at the end of 2014, Microsoft claimed by the account officer Lumia:
@ _Y06_ There Will Be Windows 10 upgrades for all Windows Phone 8 Lumia devices :) And we will release Windows 10 new models in the future!
- Lumia (@Lumia) November 11, 2014
"There will be updates to Windows 10 for all Lumia Windows Phone 8 devices." Recent events have shown that it is not, unfortunately, Microsoft's back, has not gone unnoticed. The nodal aspect of the story is the fact that on the basis of assurances as the one quoted the user has directed its purchases towards models that, at that time, represented the category of Windows Phone products more widespread - the WP terminals with 512MB of RAM .
A change of course that recently forced the Redmond to make inelegant revisions of data sheets of products at the same Microsoft Store, as in the case of WinBlue Jr LTE, proposed until a few days ago as upgradeable to Windows 10 (Mobile) when available. A word now removed from official card, but captured by a user who has shared via Reddit and still present in the official page of this product at the Blue site.
Join the Windows Insider program, only a temporary solution
Although there are in the network attempts to propose to the banned users a solution to overcome the status quo, suggesting to join the Windows Insider program and receive Insider Preview build of Windows 10 Mobile, it is correct to remember that this is a transitory solution . The official Microsoft FAQ are clear about it - is given for completeness, as already confirmed in recent days:
What happens to the smartphone not included in the list of supported devices and already equipped with a build Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview? E 'can continue to use the device without additional support. Updates will not be provided beyond the Current Branch build 10586. At some point in the future, these devices will no longer receive updates of the build Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview. To return the terminal to build a Windows Phone 8.1 supports you can use Windows Device Recovery Tool.
While installing Windows 10 now via Mobile Insider Preview build, it is not guaranteed future support, nor the continuation of the release of these builds.
If a new Windows Phone 7> Windows Phone 8?
To those who have followed the evolution of the new fracture of the installed base of Microsoft's mobile operating system calls, in some respects, another unfortunate event that has seen protagonist Microsoft in the past, one that resulted in an inability to install Windows Phone 8 on Windows Phone 7 terminals.
The proportions are a bit 'different, fortunately, because the inability to access the new major release of the operating system includes partially and not totally users. At the same time, it is enough to remember what weight have had the Windows Phone smartphone with 512MB entire installed base, to conclude that the exclusion, however, is destined to make its mark among users.
Users not only coincide with the Insider circle who, in recent months, had still to try Windows 10 Mobile and that probably will continue to do so until new builds will be released in the fast and slow circuits, but also with even more numerous mainstream users who have identified the low cost Lumia a good low cost alternative to Android and now they are forced to give up 10 Windows Mobile, after being assured of the opportunity to receive an upgrade from the same manufacturer.
