Acer thinks restructuring: became a holding company and establishment of three subsidiaries

Acer is considering the possibility of making an important project of restructuring its business, with the aim to split its business into three distinct segments that will take care of PC World, the solutions for the cloud and datacenter management and activities reinvestment.

According to available information, the company may decide to set up three subsidiaries to devote to each division of the three operating segments, and transform itself into a simple holding control of the three subsidiaries.

The PC division would be to include computers, monitors, projectors and servers, whereas the division and cloud data centers would deal of Acer Build Your Own Cloud projects and e-Enabling Data Center.

The establishment of a holding company would offer more flexibility to Acer that crops more easily attract strategic investors or, conversely, to liquidate (perhaps with the sale to third parties) those subsidiaries deemed unprofitable and instead focus on the most profitable activities.

The project could take shape in the second half of 2016, according to the newspaper taiwnese Digitimes.
