iOS, fixed a bug emerges another: opening links with crashes and freeze

Apple, as anticipated, has kicked off the release of a new update of iOS which, although without prejudice to the OS version to 9.3, introduced the build 13E5237. Upgrade purpose is to correct the problem highlighted in the process of upgrading to iOS 9.3 for devices from Cupertino older, including not only iPhone, but also iPad. Following the release of the new update, the previously emerged problems (see. HERE for more details) should have been completely solved: the iPhone and iPad users can thus proceed to upgrade to iOS 9.3 without problems. Filed a problem, however, another appears on the horizon and always has to do with a bug affecting iOS 9.x (not only the most recent release, but also the previous ones).

Several reports about it have taken place in the course of the weekend and make reference to a problem that causes crashes and freezes following the activation of a link in Safari and other apps. On this occasion, the response of the House of Cupertino has been rapid, at least in the confirmation profile on the development of a new corrective update, which could come in the form of iOS 9.3 .1 or new build of iOS 9.3. According to reports from earlier reports, to be interested in the bugs are not only native apps, like Safari, Messages and Mail, as well as other third-party app.

Apple, for the moment, did not provide a technical explanation that justifies the onset of the problem, but the developer community has advanced his hypothesis. Specifically, according to the developer Ben Collier, it would be linked to Universal Links, a feature introduced with iOS 9 that allows app developers to assocciare your app's website, so that the link to the web site can automatically open the app without having to Safari. The bug in question would prevent redirection sometimes causing the crash, sometimes the app freeze used.

The occurrence of the bug has been documented in detail in relation to an app very popular as Booking.com (but interesting app ranks could be extended), and therefore depends on which apps are installed on your system and how developers they handled the function of the Universal Links. Ben Collier indicates a temporary fix that is realized with a fairly complex procedure. These troubleshooting steps and waiting for the official fix from Apple:

If the app is still installed, remove the device from Booking.com
Activate the flight mode
Connect your device to your computer and launch iTunes
Turn on and off the device
Make sure you have the Booking.com app in iTunes on your computer (here for the download link)
Maintain active flight mode
In iTunes sync the app with the device Booking.com
Wait until the synchronization phase, then open the app on the device Booking.com
Forcibly closing the app Booking.com by a double press on the home button and swipe the top
Turn off airplane mode
Open Safari - the links should be working again. They will correct the problems onc other apps like Mail or Messages

The developer notes that might be necessary to repeat these steps. Booking.com, meanwhile, has released a quick update that fixes the problem (generated from the app together with the iOS bug) and that allows you to reinstall it after completing these steps. Please note that the instructions above are the result of an empirical procedure which, as such, might work or not. Other attempts to solve the problem go to switch on and switch off the device and disabling Javascript. No guarantee whether it remedies operating in all conditions. The final correction will come with the announced major update that Apple is preparing to release (lacking, however, an exact date for the start of the distribution).
