Big changes in Lenovo from 1 April: the company makes 4

Lenovo announced a major operation of internal reorganization, which will become operational from 1 April 2016. The PC Group (PCG) will be renamed to PC & Smart Device Business Group, internal division of the company responsible for PC products, detachables, tabler, phablet, gaming and smart home based on Windows, Chrome and Android ecosystems. This division will be led by Gianfranco Lanci, Lenovo Group President and Chief Operating Officer.

The Enterprise Business Group will be transformed into Data Center Group (DCG), focused on high-potential and high-growth markets. It will be led by Gerry Smith as president of the group, with the current Lenovo CTO Peter Hortensius that will enter the DCG as CTO and head of strategy.

The Mobile Business Group will in fact two souls within itself: the first head of mobile business, in particular the Chinese market, characterized by dynamics that are unique. The second, however, will focus on business in other global regions, with particular attention to emerging ones. The company statement did not specify clearly but the impression is that the Lenovo brand will be used for the mobile strategy in China, while in the other regions will be the Motorola brand to be offered.

To close we find the Ecosystem and Cloud Services Group (ECS), which is transformed into the new Lenovo Capital and Incubator Group. The goal of this division is to invest in a spinoff of Lenovo or startups looking for new innovative technologies. Activities related to cloud and big data will continue to be maintained within Lenovo, now on coupled directly to the products to which they refer in their respective business divisions.

Lenovo then divide into 4 parts, thus attempting to operate more lean and quick way to cope with the demands and needs of the market in order to continue the growth of the presence that has been recorded over the past years. We will see over the coming months such as operational impacts will this important change in strategy, combined with various changes in the overall leadership level.
