Project AMD Quantum: a second life in 2017?

In June 2015 AMD, in conjunction with the Las Vegas E3, had presented its range of video cards of the Fury family in addition to the Radeon R9 300 models; among the new show had attracted considerable interest Quantum Project, a concept based on PC video subsystem with Fury GPU top of the proposed range in a chassis with very particular size.

The ultimate goal of this project was to show how AMD technology could be used to create powerful gaming systems but at the same time can be an alternative to a console in size and design within dell'ambente home. Project Quantum has remained just a technology demonstration, as AMD has not brought forward development with no OEM partner systems.

The difficulties of integrating the Fury family video cards within such a small system, in addition to having to necessarily use an Intel processor to ensure adequate speed performance, have up to now been an insurmountable obstacle to the practical realization of a product of this type. It is possible, however, that AMD can opt for a repeat for gaming desktop PCs with similar design early next year, taking advantage of their technological innovations.

We refer of course to the video cards in the Polaris family, whose initial debut should take place in the second half of the year, exploiting future CPU belonging to the Zen family that will be sold as of the end of the year. This coupled with AMD could provide, on paper, that level of performance expected from a high end gaming solution without having to resort to Intel and, optimistically processors, benefiting from the high energy efficiency expected in the proposals of the Polaris family.

A system of this type, aided by the cost of implementation, it is certainly not within the reach of all gamers fans but it can pave the way for a new approach to gaming with a PC that is much closer to what they offer the console, at least for design and placement within the home environment. All this with an output of much higher processing, with which have the best 4K panels of high diagonal over to new generation VR viewers.
