Google and FCA, Marchionne releases some clarification on the agreement

The close agreement last week between Google and Fiat Chrysler (FCA), focused on collaboration to achieve 100 minivan Chrysler Pacifica equipped with Google's autonomous driving technology, he has left more than one question unanswered since the two companies do not they have made particularly light on details of the operation.

However, in recent days the FCA CEO, Sergio Marchionne, has made some statements that suggest that at least at the time the agreement is quite limited. "The goal is to bring Google technology in the minivan. It 'very very focused, there is a clear goal and a clear timeline," said Marchionne.

If this first phase of the collaboration is well defined, much less clear is what will happen next. According to the CEO of FCA agreement it is bound to have a long life and to develop, ambitiously, in something of greater thickness. E ', however, remember that the agreement does not have any kind of exclusive and Google has made no secret of wanting to collaborate with other companies in the automotive world.

Currently the agreement appears to be a "win-win" for the two companies: Google needs a production partner in the field of vehicles and FCA can use the Mountain View company's technology to accelerate the development activities on autonomous vehicles . In the long term, however, the outlook is still shrouded in mist.

Marchionne also explained that the two giants have not yet addressed the appearance of the property of all data that will be generated by subsequent joint research agreement. "We have to get to a stage where the car will be feasible in the concrete so they can discuss the results of this work. We have not gotten to this point," said Marchionne, even if one may imagine the impatience of Google to get their hands on this information. Among other things some rumors say that their disagreement over the ownership of the data would have undermined an attempt to partnership between Apple and BMW or Daimler.
