Foxconn is close to the finalization of an agreement for the acquisition of 485 hectares of land in Maharashtra, a state in central-west, on which will be built a production facility of 10 billion dollars. In return it is The Economic Times of India, which holds that the entire facility will serve the needs of Apple. Once entered into the agreements, however, it will take about 18 months because the plant will become operational in all its completeness.
Today's report comes nearly a year after the declaration of the Minister of Maharashtra, Subnash Desai, the interest on the part of Foxconn in the Indian region. At that time the voices spoke of potential negotiations between the Chinese giant and the local policy on the construction of a factory for the production of the iPhone. All with the aim of diversifying the workforce and push it even outside the Chinese borders, with India that is certainly among the most attractive candidates.
In response to declining sales of the iPhone in Western markets, Apple is focusing on emerging markets. Two notable ones for volume China, India and Latin America. In a recent interview the CEO of Apple, Tim Cook, said that just as India has great potential not only for the Apple smartphone, but also for the company's other products. The Asian country has a huge population of young people under 25 years, and sees the spread of LTE networks in recent months.
In fact, Apple is also expanding the availability of Apple Store within the country, a move that should increase the perception of the brand and its visibility in the major cities, offering the Indians a chance to buy the devices in official store and try them in person . Past efforts of Apple in the country have been hampered by on Indian foreign investment policy, which required to provide themselves flagship stores for 30% of the goods sold by local vendors.
The rules have been eased in recent periods and Apple has been quick to exploit the new opportunities granted.
