Samsung will evaluate the use of AI technology in the Galaxy smartphone

Modern smartphones integrate apps and services capable of performing the task of personal digital assistants with varying levels of efficiency extended depending on the platform. Apple, Google and Microsoft, respectively, with Siri, Google Now and Cortana, offered users the ability to leverage more or less smart assistants, and also the important smartphone market brand offering their own custom solutions. Modern digital assistants are able to act proactively, anticipating the user's needs, but it is still early to talk about systems really able to act according to sophisticated algorithms of artificial intelligence. The AI technology is being watched with interest by Samsung that does not conceal the possibility to integrate it in its smartphones.

The news was recently confirmed by Rhee Injong, Executive Vice President of Samsung Electronics, which last Thursday told the South Korean newspaper Maeil Business Newspaper:

We are considering to include AI technology in our Galaxy smartphones. When all smart devices employ AI technology, we will be able to create a smart home system very convenient to use

Details of the project are still not clear and the manager emphasizes that the company is still under evaluation. Clear, however, what is the end goal of integration AI technology in Galaxy smartphone that could become the heart of an ecosystem of smart home devices. A scenario certainly plausible, given the articulated business activities carried on by Samsung which is not limited to smartphones, but includes a wide range of technology products could potentially become increasingly smart (from TV, home appliances, and, more generally, all the devices related to the IoT sector).

The Samsung Galaxy smartphones are equipped with a voice recognition software, S-Voice, which allows to play a limited number of functions, but one can not speak of a real digital voice assistant that equates to Cortana, Google Now or Siri. At the same time, the South Korean company is accumulating resources for the AI integrate technology into its devices, as demonstrated, for example, the partnership with the startup Vicarious, announced in 2015. The Samsung executive has reaffirmed its resolve to continue to intensify efforts to consolidate and grow the software division parallel to that hardware. Therefore legitimate to wait for further news in the scope of the Galaxy smartphone series, which could include software tools that can make them even more smart.
