Grand Theft Auto V, sold 60 million copies

60 million copies of Grand Theft Auto V for all formats in which it is available were shipped to game retailers. Surely an impressive milestone for the free roaming action game originally arrived in 2013 on PS3 and Xbox 360, and then landed in the Christmas season 2014 on the PS4 and Xbox One and PC the following May.

"In the Christmas season we recorded the highest grossing of all time as far as the video game Grand Theft Auto Online, with the largest number of active users since the game is available," said Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two, during a call with investors on the sidelines of the publication of financial results of the group. Exceeding Wall Street forecasts thanks to excellent sales figures, as well as GTA, also of NBA 2K16, WWE 2K16 and Borderlands series.

The company, which is based in New York, presented accretive to non-GAAP EPS of 89 cents and revenue of 486.8 million dollars. In the corresponding period last fiscal year we had, however, loss per share of $ 1.87 and revenue of 954 million dollars. Analysts were expecting earnings to non-GAAP EPS of 50 cents on revenue of 452.8 million dollars.

In the Christmas season Take-Two had no significant releases, while last year still benefited from strong sales of Grand Theft Auto V. The majority of the revenue comes from consumer-recurring expenses related to in-app purchases, downloadable content and games online. Revenue due to these items are up 45% over last fiscal year and account for 54% of total sales. Digital sales instead make up 44% of sales.

As for future releases of Take-Two, we find XCOM 2, scheduled for tomorrow; WWE 2K16: 2015 Hall of Fame Showcase DLC, February 23; Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories (Android), always in February; Civilization Revolution 2 Plus for the PlayStation Vita, 4Q 2016; Battleborn, May 3; Mafia III, in the next fiscal year.
