The success of DiRT Rally on PC last year gave way to Codemasters to gain more confidence in the design choices made with this last chapter of the series. The game has indeed embarked on a much more realistic way than before, to the point of inducing the team to debut with a version Early Access to take the pulse to the user.
"And 'the case for lack of confidence in the fact that people wanted a rally simulation game. This is the niche of a niche. The driving games are a niche, the rally is a niche within a niche, and then we decided to a simulation profile also insert ourselves. However I believe that there has been observing the reaction and comparing it to other racing games that are about to leave or have already come out, they will not have gone very far in the simulation profile and were not accepted very well. So I think there is some evidence that people is much more comfortable in this product segment, "said Paul Coleman, chief of Codemasters game designers.
"We do not need to go to the mass market to achieve success. Of course, we always ask if we can reach back the swirling peaks of DiRT 3. To this question I could answer that we could do it with DiRT Rally on consoles ... I firmly believe that there are players of driving licenses that are still waiting for serious experience on their new console and not necessarily have been able to obtain it from other large competitors in the market. "
The audience PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will get their hands on the game at almost twelve months after the launch of version Early Access on PC. However, this step has enabled Codemasters to have positive results in support of the new route taken during development without having to wait for the final release. As stated by Coleman, user feedback shows that the market there is sufficient demand for hardcore experiences in the world of rallying. The decision to enter into Early Access has thus had undoubtedly positive effects and is the reason why Codemasters would redo the same choices in the future, as long as circumstances require.
"I'd do it again, but there should be the right opportunity. I do not want to offer me saying 'Hey, we are realizing Rally DiRT 2. And you know? We will use a new Early Access as you liked when we did the first time. I think there has to be the right setting because it makes sense.
then talking about some of the features that will have the console editions, Coleman said that the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of DiRT Rally will run both at 1080p and 60fps. However, the yield on the PlayStation 4 will still be better, because of Xbox One will adopt a dynamic resolution that will scale the game at 900p in some segments of the tracks.
"We still have work to do on Xbox One. I think it is fair to say that is a bit 'easier to run well this material on PS4. Nevertheless we will try to get as close as possible on Xbox One ".
It is not also excluded the possibility that the performance of the console versions can be further improved due to a patch made available already from day one, Codemasters has in fact scheduled to continue as much as possible the work of finishing and optimization of the product. We remind you that the launch of DiRT Rally on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One is confirmed for April 5.
