SLI with a maximum of 2 cards for the GeForce 1080 GTX and 1070 solutions

A few days after the official launch of the GeForce 1080 GTX and GeForce 1070 GTX from NVIDIA, the new proposed architecture-based Pascal positioned in the high-end market segment, emerging information on multi-GPU configurations that you can manage with these cards.

Both integrate the top two SLI connectors, like what we saw on other top video cards based on NVIDIA's previous generation architectures range. With these NVIDIA cards he has, however, introduced a new SLI mode, indicated SLI HB or High Bandwidth, which exploits both connectors simultaneously to make available a greater quantity of bandwidth.

This approach does not allow you to use more than two cards in parallel, because the SLI connectors are all busy already with two tabs: consequently does not officially support NVIDIA SLI configurations with more than two video cards GeForce 1080 GTX or GeForce 1070 GTX used in parallel . This choice is entirely acceptable to our notice: there are few users who select a configuration with two video cards in parallel and even less those opting for SLI setup with three or four video cards. The required optimization for multi-GPU configurations is also often not adequate to ensure proper results: frames climbing very little when even tend to remain the same or to get worse by adding a video card more.

Just to exploit this functionality has new NVIDIA SLI connectors made available for two cards, able to simultaneously manage two connectors for each GPU in SLI configuration HB. The connectors are of the rigid type, provided in versions capable of adapting to SLI configurations with video cards installed with 1, 2 or 3 PCI Express slot of distance between them.
