Anticipated debut for the AMD video cards based on GPU Vega? This indiscretion emerging online in the last hours, justified by the recent debut of the video card NVIDIA GeForce 1080 GTX and GeForce 1070 GTX will be available for purchase in late May and early June.
The rumor, initially published by 3DCenter.org site, specify a debut planned for the month of October of video cards based on GPU Vega. A timing of this type assumes that for that period the High Bandwidth Memory memories second generation are available (HBM2), one of the technical elements at the base of the Vega solutions.
Recall that the GPU from AMD indicated by the name of Vega is the top range of motion for the next generation, positioned on a segment cost higher than the chip Polaris Polaris 11 and 10 that the US company will announce presumably in the next few weeks.
Given the availability of new production technologies FinFET to 14 nanometers it is easily conceivable that AMD has already completed the internal development and tape out of Vega GPU. What brakes at the present time the commercialization of these solutions is linked to the availability of memory HBM2 in adequate quantities: the rest this is the same limit that meets NVIDIA for their intended GP100 chip at the time to be used for the cards P100 Head.
And 'therefore plausible that AMD can anticipate the debut of Vesa solutions to autumn 2016, more specifically in the month of October, as indicated by the source. This would represent a gain of at least a couple of months than initially indicated in the roadmap of the company but it would be justified not so much by competitive pressure from NVIDIA as from having access ahead of schedule at good volumes HBM2 memory to match the Vega GPU.
Ultimately, then, we will see Vega solutions on the market as soon as possible as it is a GPU that allow AMD to position themselves better in competitive comparison with NVIDIA. When that happens it is related to HBM2 memory availability on the market in appropriate volumes.
