Roadmap of AMD GPU: the order Polaris, Vega and Navi

At the event Capsaicin, organized by AMD during the Games Developer Conference and the occasion for the official announcement of the Radeon Pro Duo card, we have been anticipated some information on what is the AMD GPU roadmap of next generation that we will see on the market in over the next few years.

Polaris is the first name, but it is not a novelty in the strict sense: AMD has already made public demonstrations of GPUs based on this architecture, the expected official debut on the market in the second half of 2016. For Polaris AMD indicates an increase of 2.5x in the relationship between performance and watt consumed, indicating a clear step forward in terms of energy efficiency compared to Fiji GPU proposals currently on the market.

The use of HBM2, High Bandwidth Memory second generation memory will come only with the debut of the Vega family solutions during the 2017 models that will be positioned as a future GPU top of the line. How different code names in the graph we can point to Polaris half 2016, and Vega at the beginning of 2017, but lack official confirmation about it by AMD and, as always happens in the case of the data roadmap are positioned may be subject to changes over time.

For 2018, the roadmap indicates architectures Ships, for which are shown two technical elements. The first is scalability, while the second is the use of next generation type memory that at this point we assume will be an evolution of that HBM2.

AMD has announced a major partnership with Crytek, well-known software company engaged in the development of video games triple A. The two companies will work in parallel to better promote the development of VR solutions to match with HTC Lives and Oculus Rift viewers, using for this the SDK AMD LiquidVR.

In parallel with this initiative, AMD will propose the "VR Radeon Premium Ready", a program that will identify through a badge or label such as complete products or PC are able with their technical specifications to ensure an adequate user experience in combination with viewers for virtual reality. The video cards AMD Radeon R9 290 series, Radeon R9 390, Radeon R9 Nano and Radeon R9 Fury will be certified by AMD Radeon VR as Premium Ready.

Max Q: Anomalous

Hello and welcome back to Max Q! Last week wasn’t the most successful for spaceflight missions. We’ll get into that a bit more below. In this issue: First up, a botched launch from Virgin Orbit… …followed by one from ABL Space Systems News from Rocket Lab, World View and more Virgin Orbit’s botched launch highlights shaky financial future After Virgin Orbit’s launch failure last Monday, during which the mission experienced an  “anomaly” that prevented the rocket from reaching orbit, I went back over the company’s financials — and things aren’t looking good. For Virgin Orbit, this year has likely been completely turned on its head. The company was aiming for three launches this year, but everything will remain grounded until the cause of the anomaly has been identified and resolved. It’s unclear how long that will take, but likely at least three months. Add this delay to Virgin’s dwindling cash reserves and you have a foundation that’s suddenly much shakier than before. ...
