Qualcomm and Ericsson Announce Partnership for 5G

The diffusion process of the first commercial 5G networks is still long and will not be before 2020. Many companies, however, are already creating the conditions for the affirmation of the new standard. A path that passes through the test phase and setting requirements.

Qualcomm is at the forefront of achieving this important milestone and announced at the Mobile World Congress 2016, the extension of cooperation with Ericsson in 4G field for the development of 5G technology. Specifically, the two companies will be involved in the early testing and verification of the key components of 5G technology, essential to carry forward the process of standardization.

Key will complete the definition of 3GPPP Release 15 standard, with completion scheduled for 2018. An essential step in beginning, concretely, to structure commercial 5G networks.

Matt Grob, senior vice president and CTO of Qualcomm Technologies said:

As with the 3G and 4G, we are excited to partner with operators and stakeholders with industry leaders such as Ericsson to develop a 5G unified platform and increased capacity. " "Now that the vision and interest in the 5G are well established, it is time to focus on the technical and engineering activities required to support operator trials and launches on commercial networks

It is not the failure of Ericsson response that says via Ulf Ewaldsson, Ericsson's CFO:

With the acceleration of the timeline relative to 5G by many operators, it is essential that major ecosystem players to work together to pursue solutions based on industry standards to which the whole of society and consumers benefit. Ericsson has a long technical collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies and we are excited to take it forward, since the two companies will lead the way to the 5G

The 5G was one of the dominant themes of the Mobile World Congress 2016, and Qualcomm one of the most active companies in guiding the process of evolution of the LTE connectivity. The partnership with Ericsson demonstrates the modus operandi of the company that creates synergy and collaboration with the industry to guide the development of next-generation network infrastructure.
