Facebook: launched the new Social team VR

During his speech at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona Mark Zuckerberg has confirmed the creation of Social VR Team, new division engaged in analyzing the potential of using social tools in the field of virtual reality.

Zuckerberg's interest towards the VR has grown exponentially with the acquisition of Oculus VR to the tune of $ 2 billion in March 2014. In these two years the Oculus team was allowed to proceed in the development of gaming experiences specifically dedicated to the platform, but the attention from the leaders of Facebook remains focused on using social and sharing of content.

"In the future, the VR allows more types of connection, such as the ability for friends living in different parts of the world to spend time together and feel like they are really next to each other. In Facebook we created a Social VR team fully committed in exploring future social interactions in VR. This team will explore the way people connect and share content using the current VR technology, in addition to long-term opportunities, since VR evolve as a platform and will have increasingly important ".
The Social VR team will act independently but will entertain relationships very direct collaboration with Oculus VR. The common goal is to create the foundation on which the company VR experiences of tomorrow will be built. The intervention of Zuckerberg took place during the event titled Samsung Galaxy Unpacked, during which it was confirmed that the Gear VR viewer will be offered for free to all users who decide to book the new Galaxy S7.

"And 'for this reason that we have worked with Samsung to offer Gear VR. Gear VR is by far the best mobile experience VR. This is because it combines the best hardware from Samsung with the best software, from Facebook, in collaboration with Oculus, "Zuckerberg said during his speech.
Moreover Gear VR will have to deal with some aggressive competitors, primarily the viewer 360 VR, designed to work together with the new LG G5 but at the same time also support any other phone with Android system and a Snapdragon 820 processor.
