A video shows what is able to make the next generation robot from Boston Dynamics

Boston Dynamics continues to refine its humanoid robots Atlas and now is ready to submit a new version, even more impressive than the previous. Last year, the company controlled by Google had already shown a version of the battery-powered robot, but the new is characterized by smaller dimensions and lower weight significantly.

The new Atlas is about 1.80 meters tall and weighs just over 80 kg, compared with about 150 kg of the previous version dating back two years ago. As you can see in the video is able to maintain balance even in precarious conditions, for example on snow, thanks to sensors located within the body and in the legs. In the head it is of a type Lidar sensor (Laser Imaging Detection and Ranging) that allows the robot to determine the distance of an object or of a surface using a laser pulse.

Atlas is able to lift the weight parcels of 4.5 kg and can independently get up after being knocked down.

Boston Dynamics was already famous for having created BigDog, a quadruped robot designed for the US military and funded by Darpa, namely the Department of Defense United States, about 10 years ago.
