Australia Post is added to the list of private companies and public bodies concerned to experiment with the use of drones to handle deliveries. As reported by The Sydney Morning Herald at the end of last week, the Australian postal service has embarked on a pilot project that involves the use of drones controlled remotely with authority support for the security of the national civil flights. If the results of the test program will be positive, the service will be made available to end users by the end of the year. The ultimate objective is to deflate the workload arising from deliveries of parcels.

The Managing Director of Australian Post, Ahmed Fahour, said:
We are evaluating the feasibility of adding it to our multiple delivery methods. We're pretty sure if we will overcome the test phase, we will be able to offer this experimental service towards the end of the year.
A benefit may be even users living in rural areas and those who use a mailbox located several kilometers away from their homes. The pilot project plans to deliver twice a week in packs in 50 locations located outside the urban underground.
The drones used in the test program are made by the Australian company ARI Labs and equipped with camera, through which the operator can detect obstacles on the course, parachute and signal lights. Australian Post points out that the outcome of the program and the eventual transformation into an activated service on a large scale for the consumer audience depends, first, by the results in terms of safety and reliability, as reaffirms the institution's CEO :
We take into account security very seriously. We will do this only come into play when we are 100% sure that it is safe and reliable
One aspect that of security that is correct not to be underestimated, not only to avoid the hypothesis, less severe, the damage or the loss of the object of delivery, but also to prevent the occurrence of accidents of greater weight (see. HERE) .
The choice of Australian Post to use the drones to manage deliveries is not isolated in the world. Also known private companies, from Amazon to Wal-Mart, to get to Google itself, they have given rise to similar experiments. Far from being a standard delivery method available without limits for the consumer audience, the theme deliveries by drones is entwined with that of the evolution of legislation that has to adapt to regulate the use of the new "aircraft" in the civil sector . It remains to be proven, also the propensity of consumers to use such delivery instrument would be part of the Australian market, a survey quoted by The Sydney Morning Herald conducted at the end of 2015, showed that only 10% of participants They expressed a favorable opinion on the use of drones for handling deliveries.
