Uber and Lyft threaten suspension of activities in Austin

The voters of Austin, Texas, have rejected the measure Proposition 1 that would protect drivers from stricter controls, and now Uber and Lyft threaten to cease all operations in the city. Uber has announced that the service will be suspended starting from 8 in the morning local, although it is still unclear whether the abandonment in the city will be final. Lyft has instead said he will pause operations, after also threatened a suspension from 5am.

Proposition 1 would have prevented the city to require drivers to undergo custom background checks with fingerprint scan, but 56% of the voters rejected it, opening the way for further more stringent security measures. The mayor of Austin and many citizens have taken advantage of the opportunity to talk about combating "multibillion-dollar company," and it seems that the campaign has worked. Controls more stringent means damaging the drivers, according Uber and Lyft.

"Unfortunately the rules approved by the city council does not allow the real ride sharing to work," he denounced Lyft in a statement. occasional drivers, who may be forced to undergo the test to offer the service specifically are damaged. According Uber is a great loss to public safety: "The word disappointment can not fully describe the way we feel for having suspended operations in Austin," he commented.

"We hope that the city council will reconsider the order so that we can continue to work together to make the streets of Austin a safer place for everyone." The explosive growth of ride sharing has been welcomed in many parts of the world, not only in the States, with great concern, especially because she was able to disrupt the market of public services. However, there were also news pages and pages linked to new technologies.

In these states of passengers assaulted by drivers, but it is true that it happens just as often the other way around. In 2014 Uber has unilaterally decided to increase control for drivers requiring all partners (both old and new) to undergo federal controls and on a local basis. However, these controls have not proved more effective, as in some cases of them being that of John Dalton, Uber driver responsible for a series of murders in the month of February.

Dalton has passed the background checks because he had no criminal record, if Uber did not ask nor saving fingerprint or a face-to-face interview before being authorized to accept the fees with the service.
