Apple thinks of Google Cloud Platform to support iCloud services

Apple is ready to leave Amazon Web Services to switch to Google Cloud Platform to operate a part of iCloud services: it is a definitely flattering move for Google who in recent months has been trying to push the division in charge of Cloud services for third parts.

Apple would in fact signed an agreement with Google worth between 400 and 600 million dollars. To suggest the first clues about the possible change were some variations observed in the way OS X Messages handles attachments, and in particular a series of communications that occurred to Google infrastructure in Asia. Apple is to manage, currently, an installed base of about 782 million iCloud users.

In recent months by several parties it had been mentioned the possibility that Apple wants to reduce its dependence on AWS services in favor of an entirely internal solution, a task that would have taken a couple of years before it can be completed. During a meeting with investors Apple CFO Luca Maestri, stressed the iportanza put inatto center operations "fiscally responsible" in light of the rapid expansion of the user base of iCloud.

"We have data centers, which are spending growing for us because our installed base of devices and users is growing very significantly. The datacenter capabilities that we set up is to offer the services that are related to installed base.

It 'possible that Apple is looking for a temporary solution between the abandonment of AWS and the creation of a proprietary infrastructure. The company, moreover, plans to build three data centers that will open in the next two years, in Arizona, in Ireland and Denmark.
